Bodega La Venencia, Marbella

Although not possessing the variety and superior quality of tapas restaurants that can be enjoyed in Seville or Barcelona or Granada, Marbella does have a few noteworthy exceptions. One of my personal favorites is Bodega La Venencia, situated just off Marbella’s beach-side promenade on Avenida Miguel Cano 15.

The restaurant boasts an atmospheric cave-like interior with aged Jamon Bellotas hanging behind the bar and a daily fresh selection of fresh tapas along the bar.  Outside are about 15 traditional sherry barrels with stools for outside dining.

The menu features cured meats and sausages, classic Andalusian tapas specialties and a fairly extensive wine list. You can order a ‘tapa’ order, a small single serving, or you can go for a ‘media’ portion, a larger half portion of a full entree or serving. The patatas bravas served here are the best I’ve had of any Spanish establishment I’ve visited over the past 5 years! Perfectly fried rustic potato chunks with a tangy mayo/pimento sauce served on a round wooden platter for easy dipping and dredging. One of Marbella’s simple pleasures!

The restaurant is part of a small local chain of tapas bodegas in Marbella but I personally find this one to offer the best atmosphere and consistency.

I agree. This Bodega was a real find, busy and friendly with no compromise on quality. I would recommend anyone to go and they won’t be disappointed
